Here at Mountain Whispers, we’re committed to a wide range of sustainable practices, from what we use in the Mountain Whispers office through to encouraging our guests to follow basic sustainability and environmental practices. Many of our guests love the fact that we’re helping care for our heritage listed region, but being based in such as beautiful, natural wonderland, it is the smallest of things we do, that help ensure our region is here for you and your family to enjoy well into the future.
Mountain Whispers is dedicated to the comfort and well-being of our guests, although this dedication also extends to our concern for the health and well-being of our environment. Whilst privileged to be located in, and a part of the UNESCO world heritage Greater Blue Mountains, it carries with it a great sense of responsibility – a responsibility we are communicating to all our guests during their stay with us. This responsibility is also carried on throughout out day-to-day business within our Mountain Whispers office.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
- We’re working with the Blue Mountains Heritage Institute on their “Low Carbon Tourism – Building Sustainable Communities” program. The initiative is an economic and behavioural change program that is being trialled in the Blue Mountains region of NSW. It is based around the premise that the Blue Mountains community live and work within a highly sensitive World Heritage region. The communities’ long term financial, social, and ecological sustainability rely upon maintaining a healthy low carbon environment to support and promote a ‘clean green image’. This will assist in building economic resilience, and an enhanced sustainable hospitality and tourism sector in particular, as the major economic driver of the region.
- We buy 50% Green Power across all our properties and ensure heat and cooling is used only in the areas our guests are using
- We’ve been upgrading all of our properties to ensure they are energy efficient, through improving insulation and reducing the draughts that can occur in houses of a distinguished age.
WHAT OUR GUESTS CAN DO TO HELP
We love encouraging our guests to do what they can to help and the smallest things can make the biggest differences. When you stay here at Mountain Whispers, we’ll ask you to do simple things like draw the curtains and blinds at the end of the day, switching off the lights, electronic appliances and central heating when not using them and only using the linen you require.
If you’re environmentally conscious, and love staying in properties where the environment and sustainability are taken into consideration, we’d love to welcome you to Mountain Whispers. The Blue Mountains is an important region in New South Wales to both animal and plant life, as well as the general well-being of the planet.
