Whether you are visiting the Blue Mountains for a romantic weekend, a mid-week escape, with a group of friends, or making the most of the outdoors for exercise, a great meal is often part of the plan and adds to the experience. And when you have venues with stunning views, what better way to enjoy a meal than somewhere that provides a picture postcard outlook.
Whether a cosy fireside ‘dining in’ is your idea of luxury, or fine dining in style, the Blue Mountains has something for everyone’s taste. And of course, if you are staying for a few days, why not have it all!
Here are a few options to plan into your stay and are likely to make you want to linger longer!
A taste of floral beauty – Everglades House and Gardens – Leura
Everglades House and Gardens, are characterised by a cool-climate floral bounty – azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias – which (in season) colour the 5.2-hectare grounds of the grand art deco home; today it’s fitted with a gallery and tearoom with sweeping views all the way to Mount Solitary. Perfect to sit and picnic or take tea outside and soak up the views.
A taste of history: Darleys, Katoomba
Set inside the original Lilianfels House, built in the late 1880s, Darleys offers visitors a real olde-worlde dining experience. Think ornate crockery, chandeliers and plush fabric chairs and best of all, a roaring fireplace for winter. There is a beautiful formal English garden that wraps around the house and leads the eye out towards the craggy escarpment of the Jamison Valley.
A taste of views: Beyond Skyway, Katoomba
Perched atop the roof of the Scenic Skyway, 270m above the rainforest canopy of the Jamison Valley and more than 300m from the edge of the cliffs, you are truly sky high with uninterrupted views as far as you dare to stare!
The Beyond Skyway experience at Scenic World in Katoomba launched in 2022. The cable car stops in the middle of the gorge, a rooftop hatch opens and (after donning appropriate safety gear), yes, you can climb out to sit on a picnic rug or wooden benches and admire the 360-degree view. Dine (or hold your breath!) as look out over the Three Sisters, Katoomba Waterfall, and the endless peaks of the Blue Mountains National Park. Not for the faint-hearted!
